Over the next several months we’re going to look at our firm’s values. At our workshops we talk a good deal about values to pass on to future generations and we even provide a book that helps you write down not only your values, but your story (if you don’t have this book or have misplaced it let us know and we’ll send you a new one). These are the values we seek to live up to as a firm: Family, Integrity, Freedom, Capitalism, and Coaching. This month we’ll take a look at: Family.

Family is one of life’s most precious treasures – it’s where unconditional love, support, and security should be found. But while many people have the privilege of being raised in a nuclear family, not everyone fits this traditional definition of a family. And that’s where the beauty of friendship and community comes in. Close friendships can provide many of the same benefits as being part of a tight-knit family, sometimes you can feel closer with these friendships than you can with your own family. This is where the community becomes family.

It’s possible for both types of relationships to exist simultaneously and even complement each other in positive ways. For example, having friends from different backgrounds can introduce new ideas and experiences into your life while also providing a sense of comfort knowing that there are people out there who care about you unconditionally.

We believe that strong families create stronger communities and a better quality of life for everyone in them. It’s where supporting each other is offered, not just physically but emotionally as well. It’s providing a warm meal or a listening ear, being there for each other in times of need. Families give us the support needed to thrive and grow, so that together we can create a better future for all.

We are proud of the strong families in our community, and we are grateful for all you do to make it a better place. I thank you for your commitment to each other and your dedication to making our community stronger. Together, we can cultivate an environment that values family, compassion, and inclusion for the benefit of us all.

The value of family – whether it’s blood-related or chosen – is one that cannot be understated. Everyone deserves to have some form of support system in their lives, which is why it’s essential that we recognize how close friendships can bring similar comfort and joy that come with being part of a loving family unit.

Here at Field Law each of you are that family to us. We share in the responsibility to create community together. Within this sense of community, we can build deep connections with others and learn how to create a network of trust and support that gives us strength and security. Ultimately, having both family and community as part of our lives helps us feel connected not only to individual people but also to something larger than ourselves.
